Need inspiration? Take a long look (or look longingly!) at this detail from a just-completed Rustic Modern kitchen from Morris Black Designer Rich Kruse. The homeowner, inspired by a natural stone fireplace in the family room, wanted a contemporary remodel of her builder-grade oak kitchen. Rich suggested mixing natural wood with KraftMaid cabinets painted a neutral gray.
Rich started by removing a half wall to add to the spacious feel and create open sight lines from front door to back. He designed a kitchen with the serious appliances on the outer walls, and a family-friendly island in the center.
Rich also used two of today’s hottest trends: floating shelves in wood as a counterbalance to the painted cabinets, and ceramic tiles that mimic wood as the flooring – again, in a fresh gray tone – to blend the rustic and the modern.
