The designer enhanced storage convenience and capacity by including a deluxe corner base pull-out unit, a mixer lift in the island, and added shallow full door base cabinets on the back side of the peninsula which divides the Kitchen from the Family Room. The island was enlarged with back to back cabinetry.

The black trim over the upper cabinets ties into the cabinet hardware, and appliances. It was sized to make a statement without being over-powering. The lighting was improved significantly with new recessed ceiling lights, under cabinet lighting, and pendant lights over the peninsula. A shallow canned good storage pantry opens to the side.

A sleek set-in range was placed in the space vacated by the refrigerator providing room for the second oven that was requested. A black chimney hood punctuates the new design.

Before Renovation: Our designer replaced the stark white kitchen with light maple veneered cabinetry. The finish chosen adds warmth, and blends well with the existing wood floor. The frameless construction maximizes interior space and accessibility.

Contemporary Kitchen Design Details

The Lehigh Valley Builders Association (LVBA) named this contemporary kitchen an award winning kitchen. The project was a renovation of a 1980’s kitchen in a two story home in Allentown. The homeowner’s requests included more efficient use of space, better lighting, a second oven, and easy up-keep. In the interests of keeping costs down, we were to keep the existing floor, dishwasher, disposal, oven and microwave. The countertops are maintenance-free engineered stone. The Award Winning Kitchen is a well-balanced blend of the bold and the understated.
