Let us introduce you to one of our designer’s favorite friends: the Corbel. This sinuous curved wood acts as a support for cabinetry, countertops, mantles, shelves… anywhere you want a very stylish bracket.
The Corbel has been used as an architectural device since man began building. Common since the stone age, corbels can be found in Chinese architecture, supporting upper levels in English half-timbered houses are sometimes elaborately carved.. Available in a variety of styles, a corbel can be a simple curve or an elaborate combination of shapes. Look for corbels on mantels and supporting granite countertops on islands in Traditional or Transitional kitchens
This beautiful Cherry corbel is used to support a mantle in a Traditional Library with arched bookshelves and a paneled fireplace surround, designed by Dan Lenner, CMKBD. See this project in our “Throughout the Home” Gallery.
Our Designers have other architectural elements, unusual materials and unique ideas to make your home special. Bring your project to our showroom and meet with a Morris Black designer – and tap their imaginations!
