Kitchen Renovation is Complete at Contest Winners John and Lois Morrell
The winners of the Morris Black 100th Anniversary Kitchen Giveaway Contest, John and Lois Morrell, are now enjoying their completely renovated kitchen. The project was finished in the second week of October. Morris Black hosted a party at the Morrell home in November to thank the many companies and tradesmen who donated to the project. Pictured above are Lydia Bogle, kitchen designer, John Morrell, Lois Morrell, and Robert Black, Vice-President of Morris Black.
They planned well for the disruption. John made plenty of his famous shepherd pies and crab patties and stocked them in the freezer. He was baking cookies for a wedding on the Sunday before demolition of the old kitchen began.
As the winners of the Morris Black 100th Anniversary Kitchen Giveaway Contest, the Morrells received all new cabinets, new appliances, new flooring and lighting, a new sink and fixtures, and new granite countertops.
The Kitchen Giveaway Contest was created to celebrate Morris Black's 100th Anniversary by rewarding a deserving member of the community for selfless acts and contributions to the betterment of the community as a whole. John Morrell was nominated by Rev. Elizabeth Langensiepew of St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church for using his expertise as a former cook at Walps to bake and cook for the church's various charities and fund-raisers. His wife Lois is a crossing guard for the Bethlehem School District, and plays organ for two area churches. The kitchen will be featured on Morris Black's Kitchen Tour, tentatively scheduled for April, 2009. The project was sponsored by Morris Black, and the winner was selected from over 236 entries in May 2008. Many of Morris Black's partners contributed to the project: see list in sidebar. Morris Black would like to once again thank everyone who entered the contest and shared their compelling stories with us. We heard from many deserving community members, and wish we could reward each and every one with a new kitchen.
If you are thinking of renovating your kitchen, bath or other room, please stop by the Morris Black Lehigh Valley showroom Mon - Fri 8 to 5, or Saturday from 9 to 2, and talk to the designers at Morris Black.
