California Contemporary Kitchen
Clean, contemporary and uncluttered defines this remodeled kitchen in a 1950s ranch home. The original kitchen was centally located, but small, dark and closed-in. The couple wanted more light, a San Francisco vibe and sustainable materials. The Morris Black designer removed the load-bearing wall that separated the kitchen from the rest of the house. Maple cabinets in a Butternut finish were used, and dark strips of Lyptus wood added as an accent. A smooth cooktop was installed on the peninsula. Floating Lyptus shelves can be seen on the dining room wall, and long stainless steel pulls repeat the horizonal strips. The countertop is Black Absolute granite. A built-in desk, shown at the right, enjoys views of the garden from a corner window.
