We don’t get asked to design contemporary kitchens often, but boy, our designers love to! Here’s one of our favorites: a remodel that was featured on HGTV and won 2nd Place in NKBA (National Kitchen and Bath Association) National Design Competition, designed for a serious art collector in the Philly area. Zoned for efficiency into prep, clean-up and baking centers, this kitchen was designed to complement the contemporary furnishings in the rest of the home.
The kitchen pushes Modern towards Artistic, with custom touches throughout. Exotic woods are used: the custom cabinets are Maple with Bubinga inserts in geometric shapes. (Bubinga is an exotic wood from Cameroon or Zaire in Central Africa). Bubinga is also used in the unifying stripe at the top, and in accent cabinets and columns.
The kitchen also includes high-end appliances: an integrated 48” SubZero refrigerator, and a Caldera 36” cooktop with telescopic downdraft. Two stainless steel sinks are used, one for cleanup and one for prep. Notice the stainless pulls, combined with curved accent pulls.
The Fridge View shows a two-level island has a curved end panel and artisan-crafted column topped by a glass tabletop for casual dining. The side-by-side refrigerator has maple panels with Bubinga inserts, and the bar/buffet area has Stained Glass doors on the wall cabinets.
