Millennial Design Trends
As more millennials become homeowners, the more their styling trends are beginning to impact the home design market. The design world is taking notice to millennial’s buying preference in order to appeal to their generation. Since millennials tend to occupy smaller homes, they have more of a budget to renovate. Millennials that have bought a home in the last two years are currently in the process of updating, let’s see what they’re up to!
Millennial Design Trends
Open Floor Plans
Floor plans are more open than ever before. Millennials like to socialize, and open floor plans let them do just that. Small kitchens make it difficult to entertain, but with an open concept, the kitchen appears much larger. Open floor plans typically consist of a kitchen and living room or dining room, creating a seamless trifecta of lounging, entertainment and food!
Green Materials
Eco-friendly materials are a huge trend; non-toxic paint, natural products, energy star appliances and LEED-compliant light fixtures. Green building materials are becoming more and more easily available as many companies are hopping on the “green” train.
Smart Homes
As technology advances, smart homes are improving, and millennials are adding anything to their home to make it “savvy”. It’s reported that millennials are more likely to brag about “how smart their home is” over their newly renovated kitchen. Controlling the temperature of their homes with a phone to changing the channel with their voice; these new-found glories are making smart homes more relevant.
Tile
Subway tile, patterned tile and tile that looks like wood; you-name-it, millennials know where to get it. Tile has made a comeback as a major design trend in kitchens.
